Artist Girl

This is an in-progress character look development and grooming project. All grooming was done using XGen in Maya, all surfacing was done in Substance Painter, and it was rendered with RenderMan. I'd like to give a huge thank you to my mentors, Megan Walker and Caleb Kicklighter, for their incredible guidance throughout this process. The wonderful model was made by Sergi Callaber.

When I first started this project, I created some concept art and a quick reference board to define my vision. This character is a disheveled artist, with a messy bun and paint splattered overalls. After finalizing her hair and skin, my next step is to create the clothes using Marvelous Designer.

I have been using XGen in Maya to create a tube groom. I started with a base shell model, and then I began breaking down the tubes into smaller pieces. Now that the tubes are set up properly, I will continue to style the hair to give it the messy look.

This was my first time surfacing skin, and I have learned a lot throughout this process. I went through many Mean Free Path Distance tests, and many iterations on the diffuse map. These renders show the skin with peach fuzz, eyebrows, and eyelashes.
